TOP 5-How to STAY ORGANIZED during the semester.

I am a full-time wife, mom, student and work in corporate life. Sometimes it’s hard trying to stay organized. Wait, who am I kidding, it’s hard a lot of the time, to be honest. For us parents trying to make it, pat yourself on the back. Nobody talks about how hard it is and most people will judge us-as if parenting comes with an owner’s manual.
I decided to go back to school in mid 30’s before having my son. I felt stuck when I was applying for jobs. Most places were not accepting my application because I did not have a “bachelors degree.” Although, most can argue that schooling is a plus-recruiters tend to disregard the actual work experience in lieu of education. (My first job was at McDonald’s at 14 ½ yrs. old) I am not discrediting anyone with or without a college degree.
College is hard and even harder while holding down a household and working full-time. Just like life, the college has its obstacles. Don’t let the obstacles dictate your failure.
Staying organized for school is as easy as 1, 2, 3-5!

- CREATE a folder on your desktop/laptop in your documents for example, I have created a folder for “Fall 21” with sub-folders inside for each class with the ACUTAL class title/name. This makes it easier to track when you are trying to locate your assignments by class. (I recommend doing this every semester)

- Get a PLAN-ner to also help you stay organize, because if you don’t. I am sure you have heard the sang “fail to plan, plan to fail,” this applies to anything and everything in life. I have planner, along with a weekly and daily schedule. It actually helps make planning easier to see and map out. We all have different learning styles, some people do better with daily planning, some with weekly planning and some with monthly planning. Find what works for you but these are my personal recommendation on what works best for me.

- Get a notebook for each class or a notebook for multiple subjects. Does not have to be anything fancy. I got mine for under a dollar each. Take a Sharpie and label each notebook with the class title/name. This helps me keep track and is a quick grab for reference when I am studying or taking notes.

- Note taking is more fun with colors. I find taking notes is easier when I use colors to either highlight my notes or write them in color. This also helps me when I study. So, grab a set of colored pens and highlighter for taking notes. Don’t forget a good pencil and eraser. Nothing is more annoying then erasing notes and having your paper rip or the ink smeared. I also recommend grabbing a pen/pencil pouch to house all the writing supplies.
- Print out the class syllabus and/or assignment list to have for reference. I stapled mine on the insider cover of the notebook for each class. If you have a multi subject notebook and it has a pocket, I recommend having it live there so it stays with the notebook/class it belongs to. Having a designated notebook for each class makes organization a lot easier.
